On a cold winter morning,

in the time before the light...
-Dragonforce-

It doesn't necessarily have to be cold nor does it have to be morning or winter. There is however, a magical moment when the light is shrouded in moisture. Call it fog, call it mist, whatever you call it, it creates a moment of magic. Whether the light is a street lamp or the rising or setting sun, the point is that the light is breaking through. Like yesterday's "splash of color in a grey world", there is a certain relief felt when the light breaks through the shroud of fog.

Wikipedia says:

Fog forms when water vapor in the air at the surface begins to condense into liquid water. Fog normally occurs at a relative humidity of 100%. This can be achieved by either adding moisture to the air or dropping the ambient air temperature. Fog can form at lower humidities, and fog can sometimes not form with relative humidity at 100%. A reading of 100% relative humidity does not mean that the air can not hold any more moisture, but the air will then becomes known as supersaturated. Fog formation does require all of the elements that normal cloud formation requires with the most important being condensation nuclei. When the air is saturated, additional moisture tends to condense rather than staying in the air as vapor. Condensation nuclei must be present in the form of dust, aeresols, pollutants, etc. for the water to condense upon. When there is exceptional amounts of condensation nuclei present, especially hydroscopic (water seeking such as salt, see below) then the water vapor may tend to condense below 100% relative humidity. Conversely, when low amounts condensation nuclei are not present and wind is light, the water may tend to stay in the air as vapor which would increase the humidity to over 100%.

Through the Fire and the Flames

On a cold winter morning, in the time before the light
In flames of death's eternal reign we ride towards the fight
And the darkness is falling down and the times are tough all right
The sound of evil laughter falls around the world tonight
Fighting hard, fighting on for the steel
Through the wastelands evermore
The scattered souls will feel the hell, bodies wasted on the shore
On the blackest plains in hells domain
We watch them as they go
Through fire and pain and once again we know
So now we fly ever free
We're free before the thunderstorm
On towards the wilderness our quest carries on
Far beyond the sundown, far beyond the moonlight
Deep inside our hearts and all our souls
So far away we wait for the day
For the nights all so wasted and gone
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days
Through the fire and the flames we carry on
As the red day is dawning
And the lightning cracks the sky
They raise their hands to the heavens above
with resentment in there eyes.
Running back through the mid-morning light
There's a burning in my heart
We're banished from the time in the fallen land
To a light beyond the stars
In your blackest dreams we do believe
Our destiny this time
And endlessly we'll all be free tonight
And on the wings of a dream
So far beyond reality
All alone in desperation
Now the time is gone
Lost inside you'll never find
Lost within my own mind
Day after day this misery must go on
So far away we wait for the day
For the nights all so wasted and gone
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days
Through the fire and the flames we carry on
Whoah, whoah, whoooooah, whoah, whoah, whoooooah
Now here we stand with their blood on our hands
We've fought so hard now can we understand?
I'll break the seal of this curse if I possibly can
For freedom of every man
So far away we wait for the day
For the lives all so wasted and gone
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days
Through the fire and the flames we carry on
